On your arrival at Lisbon airport, our driver/guide will give you a warm welcome and will escort you to your Hotel in Lisbon. Thought for those who are true wine lovers, this private tour will guide you through the secrets of the most important wine regions in Portugal. With a growing number of quality wineries and proud winemakers, here we can find a range of wine styles often made from indigenous grape varieties. The Port Wine is, by far, the most famous, but a lot of Portuguese wines have been widely awarded. Being a proposal that can be adapted, this tour will provide a deep and luxurious experience through the Portuguese wine history. Dinner at restaurant. An overnight stay in Lisbon.
On this day after breakfast, our driver/guide will pick you up at your Hotel and we will start exploring the wine of the surroundings of Lisbon. Sheltered from the Tagus estuary by a range of hills, Bucelas is a small vineyard region around the tiny town with the same name. The vineyards are planted mostly on loam soils and this wine production raised with the help of the Duke of Wellington, in the early 1800s, who transformed this wine in the fashionable drink in London. Nowadays, these vines continue to produce a first-class wine, using predominately the Arinto grape, with singular characteristics from fruity fresh flavors to rich, oak-inspired tastes.
Here, we will visit an Estate (a typical winery). It produces white wines “DOC Bucelas” (Controlled Designation of Origin) and Lisbon regional red wines. This winery is placed in the famous Wine Route and it is also considered a great wine tourism attraction within an incredible and unique landscape. Return to Lisbon. Dinner at restaurant. An overnight stay in Lisbon.
After a great breakfast at the Hotel, our friendly driver/guide will lead you through the Alentejo Region. This is one of the biggest wine regions in Portugal, located in the south of this country. This sunny, warm and dry region allow the perfect ripening of the grapes, which are planted on the steep slopes of the mountain. Being a demarcated region since 1988, here the white wines are usually soft, slightly acid, with tropical fruit aromas and the red ones are full bodied, rich in tannins and with aromas of wild and red berries. Here we will visit one of the most prestigious Estate in this region, where we will learn more about the wine production and will taste its delicious wines.
In afternoon, we will reach another wine region: the beautiful Setubal Peninsula, known as "Costa Azul". It is believed to be the home of the first grape vines ever planted on the Iberian Peninsula (approximately 4000 years ago), having wines with remarkable qualities. From the sweet, floral notes of the “Moscatel de Setúbal” to the sublime flavours of the well-structured Palmela, they acquired great prestige and importance in the last decades of the 20th century. Here, we will visit another notable Estate, with a lovely wine tasting. Return to Lisbon. Dinner at restaurant. An overnight stay in Lisbon.
Today after breakfast, we will start this day in the western part of the Beiras, between the mountainous Dão Region and the surf-washed Atlantic beaches. Bairrada has a typical Atlantic climate, with mild and rainy winters and hot but slightly windy summers. Despite being a hilly region, most of the vineyards are planted on flatter land. This is the home of good wines, made with high quality varieties, such as the traditional Baga, for the red wines, and the Bical, for the white wines. Here we will visit one of the most important Wine Cellars and we will learn more about the delicious wines it produces.
In afternoon, we will go to the Dão Region. This land is surrounded by mountains that protect it both from the influence of the continental climate and from the chill and rains of the ocean. Placed in high altitude, its vines are made up of several grape varieties. We can highlight the Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz for the red wines, known for being full-bodied, aromatic and great complex after aging in bottle, and Encruzado for the white nectars, which are very aromatic, balanced and fruity. Here, we will visit a famous Estate, considered one of the oldest wineries in this Region. Arrival at Douro Valley. Dinner at restaurant. An overnight stay in Douro Valley.
After a great breakfast, you will start exploring the Douro Wine Region with our experienced driver/guide. Our first stop will be Peso da Régua, in the heart of Douro Valley. This region is considered one of the oldest wine regions in the entire world (it dates back to 1756) and it’s famous for its incredible landscapes, its beautiful river and its renowned Port Wine, the main ambassador of the Portuguese wines. However, in the last decades, the “table wines” from Douro have been widely admired, achieving a gorgeous reputation. Perched on incredibly steep slopes, the views are dazzling, with the vineyards lined up along the riverbanks.
We will keep driving along one of the most charming routes in Portugal and we will reach the sympathetic village of Pinhão, with its impressive Railway Station. And this private trip will take you to two of the most famous wineries with an amazing wine tasting directly from the land they are produced. Arrival at Porto. Dinner at restaurant. An overnight stay in Porto.
Breakfast at hotel. The History of Port Wine is closely linked to the emblematic city of Porto. This is the land where the fantastic Douro River meets the Atlantic Ocean and decades ago, this was the only capable place to export the Port Wine to the world. Traditionally, the wine was taken downriver in flat-bottom boats called “Rabelo Boats”, to be processed and stored at the Port Wine Cellars. For this reason, a tour through the wines of Portugal must include a guided visit to this 2nd largest city in Portugal and here you can still taste the wine in their barrel-filled warehouses.
During a private trip through this emerging European destination, you will admire the most important streets, avenues, plazas and monuments of the city of Porto. Known as the “Invicta City” (the Unbeaten City), every corner has marks of History, Culture and Art. From modern local treasures to the old landmarks placed in the historic city center (classified as UNESCO site), this tour will end in the riverbanks of Douro. Here, we will visit one of the most famous Port Wine Cellars, learning more about the origins of Portugal’s fortified wine production and tasting the delicious Port Wine. Dinner at restaurant. An overnight stay in Porto.
Today after breakfast, we will travel through the Portugal’s northernmost wine region. The Minho Region is also known as “Costa Verde” (the Green Coast), a reference to its lush, and green (“verde”) countryside. Its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean is the reason why this land is so prolific for agriculture, including viticulture. In fact, the crisp and light Vinho Verde (green wine) stands out. Medium in alcohol and with a blend of light aromas, it has great digestive properties. Both the whites and the reds are light wines and famous, but the white nectars are the most well-known and best-loved.
During this day, we will visit two famed green wine wineries and taste the delicious wines that they make. On a guided tour, we will discover the whole process, from cultivation to grapes to wine production, discovering the magic behind this tasty wine! Return to Porto. Dinner at restaurant. An overnight stay in Porto.
After a delicious breakfast and your check-out, our driver will transfer you to the Porto airport. End of our services.
